I thought we were able to turn off "require login" for leaving product reviews. I can't find the setting. I have turned off the setting to make people log in before checkout.

Hi Loxalot,

Product reviews will always require a customer to login if they have an account or register for an account. The reason for this so that the review is tied to a specific account and that way a bunch of people will be less likely to leave bogus reviews on your site if they have to have an account first.

We have found just the opposite and that no one is leaving reviews. In fact, I just turned off the feature. I think we had two we put in there and one from a distributor. We promoted this in our newsletter for a while but haven't had a single review from a "real" customer.

Maybe we are just a different market but I think our customers would gladly review but don't want to have to go through the sign-up process just to write a review. It's too much trouble for them I think. I am sure there are quite a few people who have purchased from us that don't have an account but chose the "guest" option.

If you don't have the "auto-approve" option checked no one should have to worry about bogus reviews coming in. You could just delete them. Atleast something might come in.

I have promted this in my last two newsletters with no resposes. I sell about 25 of the same product per month and I had hoped to get some of those people to leave reviews but since most aren't going to sign up for an account (usually it's their only purchase from us), I'm not getting any reviews.

I have to approve my reviews and I would like the option of not having the customer or visitor sign up first.
