Full Version: Sig Suggestion
MonsterSmallBusiness Forums > MonsterSmallBusiness > Forum Feedback

Yesterday I popped open a pretty amazing display of ummm, manhood, on my work machine with my Marketing Director standing right behind me. We were discussing some things about our store and I thought I would open the site on a post that might have been relevant to our discussion. Embarrassing and hazardous to my job security, although she knew I was also surprised.

Since this is a public forum, I would suggest a voluntary "Adult Site" or something in the sig of the person posting -- if your store is doing that kind of thing.

I am not criticizing content; rather, some venue for MC gateway discretion.

Comments are welcome.
Captain
Ebenson,

I actually had the same thing happen yesterday (with the same signature). I quickly copied the post, emailed it to myself, deleted the post, then contacted the site owner to discuss the site owners post (he had a 4.0 migration issue).

I believe in the freedom of commerce and speech, but I agree we should implement a policy to avoid potentially harmful or embarrassing situations for forums users.

Let's discuss this and come up with a community policy on the issue. innocent.gif

I spoke w/Eric about this earlier and totally agree. Store owners of Adult Sites posting in the forum should indicate that they are indeed a adult site by maybe placing "*Adult Site*" at the bottom of the signature or something.

Hi,

For all adult content, I think there should be at least text in their sig that says:

WARNING: ADULT CONTENT SITE (something along that line) I believe it is pretty fair.

A lot of people have children around computer and/or important people

Haha... Again Ultimate & Krazy posting the same thing at the same time tongue.gif

Not sure if I entirely agree with that only because it looks bad and we all want business driven to our sites, not taken away. Just sounds a bit too much like the segregation issues the United States had up until the sixties to me. After all... the web was created for all sites to conduct business equally. biggrin.gif

Ultra I do not see it as taking away business. I see it as a warning. If a person would not go there by seeing the Adult content sign, I do not think they would want to go in the first place.

Ultra,
We're not talking about preventing posts or making them go into a seperate area of the forum. Just a little courtesy to those of us who do not wish to visit Adult Sites without knowing it. A simple *Adult Site* line at the bottom of the sig shouldn't be that big of a issue. wassat.gif

Dear Ebenson,

I believe that was my post you are referring to. I have no problem at all indicating that my site contains extensive adult content. I do not wish to embarrass anyone. Further, as required by law, my site may only be accessed by persons over the age of 21. These warnings and terms and conditions are posted on my splash page, as well as on every page of the site itself.

Our site is for a select audience of persons who choose to view, and are not offended by such content and whom agree they will not expose minors to this material.

Having said that, I do hope my future posts to these forums will not be deleted simply because of my site content. Since I have had serious issues with migration, I have been looking for support anywhere I find it.

Once again, as in my previous deleted post, monstersmile.gif has been a great technology partner, and I look forward to doing business with them for both my adult, and non-adult sites.

Hi Casey,

I know I would not have a problem with it, you are just trying to get help like the rest of us. Although, I am glad to see you put up the warning, I really respect you for that. If you need help, I am here to help..burroughs@krayzkickz.com if they do decide it is not appropiate for adult sites to post..

welcome and I hope you learn a lot. biggrin.gif

Like I said, I have no qualms about people contributing to this site. I am in the same boat as UltraShock on the "more the merrier" commonality of the forum, but unlike his comments, I think discretion might be a good idea. That does not mean not allowing adult stores to post on the forums about content -- that wasn't my point. I just don't want someone to open up a store just to see and get an eyeful they weren't expecting.

I hope that your posts are not eliminated in the future based on site content, either. Don't think so -- I think Captain ran into a policy issue that hadn't been addressed yet, and hopefully this is a good start.

I appreciate the sig change, Casey. Look forward to seeing more of your comments here.

And anyone else that wants to speak up, for that matter. smile.gif
