Has anyone seen a very large number associated with their Pages & Files info under All Files for /404.asp page? My numbers have been very high - this was for

11/13 - 1. /404.asp 6,840 10.58%

How can I find if I am missing a link? I know I am missing some photos, but that shouldn't cause this, should it? I couldn't find any help in the Urchin help manual, thought someone here might know - thanks!! Nancy

You can check for broken links using Link Sleuth >>

Ryan's advice on link sleuth is very good. As for the higher numbers, please keep in mind that one of the things we did for the migrations to ensure paid advertising or search engine listings did not fall by the wayside was to make a couple of items:

1) scripts to catch old page links/references and reprocess these requests to the correct/corresponding 4.0 location (from the 3.x cart links)

2) a 404 page that automatically redirects the visitor to the main page of the store based on the request host (i.e - domain.com, www.domain.com, or ip of store, etc).

Most likely what you may be seeing is related to people who have bookmarked certain items that were not cart specific, or in some cases people who may have been hotlinking to items in your site, etc, etc.

Captain - Thanks for the software tip - I ran the program this morning and all was perfect - no broken links etc. I have not gone to version 4 software yet, so it can't be any issues with that, so I can't imagine what else it could be. You can see from the item line from Urchin that this 404 page was the #1 file for 11/13 - 6,840 times...I am quite confused.

Nancy - what is your site so that I can look into this further?

You may want to consider putting that info in your sig as well. I am not the SEO king, but I believe that the forums are heavily indexed by Google and such so posting your site URL in your sig could help page rank, etc.

Let me know either way and I will look into your stats in more detail.
