Full Version: <h1> Tags In Product Description
MonsterSmallBusiness Forums > MonsterCommerce > How do I?
Eric
I have heard from a friend that it is important for me to embed the <H1> tags in my product description and or cat. What is the relevance to this and where would i put these tags in. Also i was wondering if there was anyone that wanted to look at my source code and give me some feedback on it. I know it took alot of u along time to learn the information i am requesting. This said, my appreciation goes out to all that give me feedback about this subject.

Yes I use them. I place them in the detailed description area.
Here is an example: click here

Mine look smaller than regular <h1> tags through a little custom css. If you would like to know how to do this as well, pm me.

But does it really matter? The HTML catalog uses H1 tags for your product descriptions. Does anyone know if it does actually make a difference? If it is worth it I'll consider using the dataport and updating my site. smile.gif

Sometimes my product pages rank better than my html pages, and sometimes its the other way around. It does help IMO.

Thanks E!

Anyone else have a opinion on this before I spend hours updating all my products? wink.gif

Here is another question to throw into the mix.

Will the <h1> repetition hurt page ranking? (once in product name, again in product detailed description)

IMO >>

H1's absolutely help in my opinion. This may change as more people use them as an SEO tactic.

I would also encourage you to use H1 and the top, then H2 as you move down the page, then H3 etc.

You get the point...!

Well I'm not going to go thru and change all my products right now. wacko.gif

However, where I am currently moving and cleaning up my catagories I will gladly use it in the Catagory HTML. biggrin.gif

Example:

Current Disney Princess Keychains Page.

New Disney Princess Keychains Page.

Captain,

Just to be clear....are you referring to <h1> tags in the "detailed description" in our product pages?

I was wondering if monstersmile.gif software converts the product name to an <h1> tag and would result in two <h1> tags for a product page. Do you know this scenario to be the case?
skipper
mgriffin - If you are referring to the HTML Catologue Generator, MC does automatically convert product names into <H1> tags...if you are referring to regular dynamic cart pages, nope, we don't convert there.

As Captain stated, you would want to use <H1>, <H2>, <H3>, etc. from the top of your page on down to the bottom...it is a little risky to double-up on <H1> tags with the same text (ie, product names). Instead, you might try using larger font sizes, bold, underline, and/or italic attributes. Spiders love those...Appetizers to the main course (which is relevant content). stuart.gif Of course, big font tags (like size 3, 4, and higher) aren't as easily - if at all - controlled with stylesheets so they can be less than aesthitically appealing, to say the least.

Hope that helps!

I agree with everything that Jen stated above except one thing.

I am not certain multiple H1's on a page is neccesarilly risky. I don't think it will help or hurt you.

Best case H1, H2, H3 as you move down the page.

Is product description the same as "short description"?
