Full Version: Questions About Asp & Sql
MonsterSmallBusiness Forums > MonsterCommerce > How do I?
JParker
We're contemplating switching from Yahoo Stores to MonsterCommerce and these are the first of what I'm sure will be many questions that I'll have to get answers to before we can make a decision.

Are we able to upload our own ASP scripts and/or alter the ASP scripts used to generate the default pages?

Are we able to create new tables on the DB? Alter existing tables? Access the DB through our own scripts?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer our questions.

You cannot modify the existing software without one of two things... either purchasing the software outright and/or having us customize the shopping cart software for you.

Again, not without purchasing the software outright and/or having us customize the software for you.

In terms of pricing for purchasing our software outright, I'd recommend calling our sales department who could help you out even more. smile.gif

Does the functionality exist to allow us to include our own uploaded ASP scripts in the default pages? For example, if I wanted a custom script to be included in the right column, would it be possible through a simple SSI?

As for purchasing the software outright, and this may be a better question for the sales folks, but I figure I'll give it a shot here first... we would probably be looking at a dedicated server package, would purchasing the software alter the monthly charge on that?

I made a couple corrections to my posts above. Apparently 3.x did allow you to upload ASP and 4.0 will no longer allow you to do so for security reasons. I apologize for the misinformation.

In reading a little deeper into the forums, it seems that most of the concern is because of the effect such changes can cause to other users on the same box. In a dedicated server situation, this shouldn't be a concern, should it?

Yes - you are exactly right about the dedicated server scenerio. We will first and foremost protect our version 4.0 code, however, uploading your own ASP pages and the like is mainly a threat when on a shared server. Dedicated servers solve that problem smile.gif We are preparing options/solutions for this that will be available sometime next week.

Thank you!
