Many of you probably know about this Overture tool, but others might not.

This site lets you discover how often search terms are used in the Overture family of search engines. The true number probably understates the frequency of searches for a particular term because many engines are not included (such as Google). Even so, the relative numbers give some insights into what people are looking for.

We're using this tool as we change the focus of our bali kingdom site. We will be selling a wider range of products in a narrower set of categories. Once we have selected the core categories we will be doing a round of SEOing to focus on those categories. It is easier to be on page 1 of google results for 4 lines of products than for 14. We have found a good correspondence between what people search for and what we have had success selling.

I use this all the time and suggest everyone else bookmark it. Helps a lot when trying to figure out keywords to taget.

My only beef with it is that is combines plurals with regular words and sometimes its tough figuring out which one to target. (ex. FISHING REEL vs. FISHING REELS)

You guys are right on the money... Ultimate and I were PM'ing about this.

When setting up your categories, sub categories and product names... you should have the suggestion tool open at all times... Your entire store should be built around the keywords people are searching for within your industry and products.

It is a waste of time to name products names nobody is searching for... name your products etc with keywords and reap the rewards.

It is a great way to discover things to focus on. We were surprised at how fast our dragons (wood carved, mobiles, etc.) were selling. Looks like there are a lot of dragon lovers out there. This, I did not know.

Hey,

Saw this tool before. Do search see it as spamming if you add a lot of keywords to your homepage meta tags?

Krazy,

There is such a thing as "keyword spamming"... but that is much different than creating a webpage that caters to both search engines and users. Look at the MonsterCommerce homepage. All that text certainly doesn't look all that great... but it looks great to Google.

It's important to get all of your keywords on your index page...
but it's also important not to keyword spam.

Use this keyword density analyzer to see the keyword density for certain words on your pages. You want between 7-9% for single word phrases...
