Hi all, smile.gif

Is there any way to have a different page title print at the top of the page based on the current item category? I sell collectibles and would like to have the current items headline listed next to my Logo as the customer goes through the store.

Captain
Hi hoganp,

Welcome to the forums... thanks for posting.

I am not exactly sure what you are asking. Can you provide a screenshot or a broader description of what you intend to do. I am sure we'll be able to figure out a solution for you.

Hi,

Are you speaking of the title bar at the top? The blue one to change as your customers enter a new category?

If so, Just to go inventory>>>Category editor>>> and whatever you type in the Category name box, it will display in the blue title bar as they browse the site.

Not sure if this is what you meant.

Welcome to the board!

Hi Capt,

Thanks for the quick response. smile.gif

Currently all of my pages have my logo and the following text at the top:

QUOTE
Superhero-zone.com welcomes you. We offer a great selection of today's hottest Superhero and Sci-fi toys and collectibles. Action Figures, Statues, Busts, Movie Props and more!

I would like this text to be replaced with a headline based on the current category when that category is selected by the Customer.

Ex. I have a Batman collectibles category. I would like to have my Logo and Batman Collectibles printed at the top of the page when the Batman Category is selected. The same for Superman, Spiderman, Star Wars, etc..

Currently my welcome text is displayed at the top of the page no matter which category I select.

I haven't redirected my Domain name to the IP address monstersmile.gif assigned me yet. I can post the IP address for the site while it's under development but I'm not sure if that's allowed in the forums?

Hopefully this is isn't a major project. I looked around and couldn't find any leads in the forums or documentation. I might've missed it.

Hi,

When you convert over to monstersmile.gif, follow my steps above that I gave in my previous post.. that will do what you just mentioned!

Krazy,

I think Hoganp means he wishes for the text next to the logo to change as the categories change... not just the title. I would recommend him doing this in the Category .html editor... is this the best solution?

Also, Hoganp, feel free to post your IP etc as you build. We have no issues with that. smile.gif

Hey Captain,

I thought he meant the title bar because he typed:

"Currently my welcome text is displayed at the top of the page no matter which category I select. "

So I was just using context clues...lol

Yeah the only other way is to put it each html editor.

Please post your URL.

Hi again,

Thanks to all for being so helpful.

Here's the temporary site address:Superhero-zone.com Temp Site.

If you click on the Batman link, my desired output would be for the text next to the logo to say Batman Collectibles instead of the Welcome text I have on the Main page. Same goes for all my other categories.

Thanks again. biggrin.gif

Just a suggestion but I see that your header that you are talking about is not in a table or the table is not set for a width of 100% so it extends beyound the edge of the page you may want to fix that and use a different text color to stand out more.

I am looking at scripts that may help you accomplish the goal you are looking for.

I need the help of the developer on this one.

But hypothetically you could put a function call in the header of you page something like.

<%Request.Form (Item or Catagory Name)%>

Please do not put this in your site. I want a developers veiw on this as it should be easily possible to put in the head or foot of the page which by the way will also help in SEO

Please advise me whether or not this is possible. I am not sure what function I would call as I do not know the tables in the new database properties.

Thanks.

Thats if you modify code directly. The Custom HTML Function calls are "Specific" and require no coding skills. The System actually reads in the HTML and parses for those specific codes Neil smile.gif

But actually I am thinking....mmm What If I were to write a custom html function that would do the Main Cat > Sub Cat > Sub Cat

And you could draw this anywhere?

Lemme know, it would'nt be hard guys smile.gif
Neil82591
Thanks for the quick response Bittersweet. I think it would be nice if instead of Cat/Sub/Sub

We could have Item show up here is an example of what I am talking about. Check out the bottom of the page. You will notice on every page at the bottom is the Item again. Kinda like the breadcrumbs we have for categories.

If you scroll to the very botoom of the page you will see the product name again.

It looks like in this site it is just typed in every page but we can't do that in monstersmile.gif so if there was something like that that we could do it would solve the issue this thread was started about because it could be placed where we want it.

Thanks
Bittersweet
ahhh I get it now. Have Cat - Sub - Sub - Prod Name

Am I right Neil ?
Neil82591
I think just product name would suffice because you have the cat names on top and bottom center of every page already so I think it would be redundant but to have teh Product name appear would be what the initial post is about and also what I am thinking.

Thanks

Hey all,

After reading all the brainstorming (it's great to have such a supportive community smile.gif ), I realize that something like a Category Headline field, w/an optional use checkbox or if blank nothing happens, might be the solution (although this is yet something else to manage).

What I had in mind and didn't consider until I read more of the posts is to have the page title remain the same for a particular main category.

Ex. If I'm viewing the Batman category, Batman Collectibles would appear next to the logo at the top of the page no matter which Batman item or sub-category the customer is viewing. I think the Breadcrumbs handle the rest by displaying the category and/or subcategory being viewed by the customer.

Thanks again for all the great input.
Neil82591
Thinking about it further Bittersweet I think to Function calls would be nice.

1. <%DRAWMAINCAT%>
2. <%DRAWPRODTITLE%>

This way you could have either or both in the header or footer of any page.

Thanks
