hello everyone, cool.gif
First thanks in advance for all input.

There a couple things i am looking for information on

1- Web Position GOLD - who has used it and what was their experience with it?

2- Since the 4.0 migration, i am not sure where to put my meta tag...advice?

3- How many keywords is ideal for the search engines to find me? What is the correct format for inserting the keywords into my meta tag ie; all caps, in quotes, is there a space between quotes ("keyword""keyword")

4-can i have my own forum for all the questions i have (joke)

5- What has worked for u in regards to driving traffic to your MC storefronts?

Thanks again,
ERIC

1. Have no experience with this

2. You can put your meta tags for the home page by going to. Site information>>>Site wide settings>>>site text. You will then see something that says Site description and Site keywords. In the site description put a nice description of your site with about 3-4 for your keywords. In the Site keywords, you can fill this box with as many keywords that are relevant to your site.

Then to add keywords to each category go to inventory>>>category editor>> and fill in keywords. These will show up in the meta tag section on those particular pages. Make sure you click save after each category section, otherwise other sections will be lost. So after you add all keywords for Plugs, click update/save before moving to the next box.

3. Put keywords that are relevant to your site. Do not put junk in there or spam the keywords. the correct way to put it is keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword,

4. Yeah ...lol.. you can flood this section with questions...lol

5. Make sure you put that built in SEO on your page. It also helps if you get and updated level to at least refresh every 7 days, google loves fresh content. Learn to Optimize your site. You can view the SEO section of this board for great tips.

Hope this helps
Thanks & Welcome again.

I put spaces in my keywords. That is keyword keyword etc...because that is what the product wizard says to do. Is this wrong?

Also, if you only have the free SEO, isn't it possible that the web bots and spiders will grab some fresh content on a site? I am sure it's not as effective as the SEO.
Captain
Nascar,

Google will absolutely spider the dynamic portions of your site and capture the fresh information. The static .html pages will only be updated as often as you specify in your plan...

Make sense? rolleyes.gif

Captain, I have a question about the seo catalog and updates.

Do the updates do something different every time it's run, even if you didn't add any new products or make any changes to your site? Or do the updates just basically add all the new information you've made to your site.

I'm just trying to see if it would be any benefit to getting a 7day or daily update for a client who doesn't add products constantly.
Captain
My guess is that it really only benefits for thos that change their product information etc. If you have a static product line I am not sure the 7 day or everyday generation will be of much benefit.

I am forwarding this to Chris to see his response. I am not sure if the more frequent generation of the same pages will be of benefit. It certainly is an interesting questions.

Does Google see changes on pages based on when the pages were last updated...? Or does it just notice changes in the content?

My guess would be the former... but I am just guessing on this one.

I agree with Cap', unless your content changes daily there would be no need to regenergate the catalog.

Its my understanding, that Googlebot is looking for fresh/new content, then indexes those changes when found, even though that may take some time to happen.

Some webmasters use Meta Tags such as revisit hoping to get the bot to visit them more frequently.

Revisit-After tag tells a search engine spider how long they should wait before visiting your page again - how long to not index it for.

If you are happy with the spiders indexing your site as often as possible, you would do well to leave this out. The spiders will return to your site as often as they deem fit, and the only way to influence the frequency this occurs at is to just keep adding new content on a regular basis.

Ah, i thought monstersmile.gif added new things daily/weekly to the template to make even old items appear fresh. Now I see whats going on, all that happens is you add the new information, no template changes. Thanks!
Captain
E-

We do make modifications and enhancements to the catalog on a regular basis... and we will do so more often now that 4.0 migrations are coming to a close. Those that update everyday or every seven days will get these new features faster... while those who are on the 30 day plan will be upgraded every 30 days.

Does this make sense? I didn't mention this in my post above.
Ewestforth
Yes, this does make sense.
Thanks Captain!

I'd like to add a couple of Meta Tags to the index page, in addition to the meta keywords and description tags. How do I add them to the head portion?

I have no idea wheter to specify keyword keyword keyword or keyword, keyword, keyword, or keyword A keyword B, keyword C keyword B, keyword D keyword B.

Seems like everyone has their own opinion and I can't find a definitive answer to this anywhere. Would sure love to have one! Hint, hint to anyone who knows for sure!

when using the keyword meta tag just put a space between the keywords. This way if a spider reads it - it can combine all words into 1000's of combinations. If you use a comma then it will only read each individual keyword or phrase on its own and will not combine them.

That being said - If you ask me keyword meta tag is a waste of time, google doesn't use - Inktomi/Yahoo does, but the weigting given to the tag is soo slight, your time is best used else where.
