Lastly, to sign up for Google Checkout and receive $50 dollars in AdWords credit, click here.

Thank you!

Are we still eligible for the $50 credit if we have already signed up? If so, how?

Thanks!
Heather

I did the same thing. OOPS.

Google Checkout can (already) actually support real time shipping, along with limiting shipping methods by address, etc. However, none of the large cart providers (ShopSite, monstersmile.gif, Volusion) have actually integrated it yet... but Google has posted the relevant API information, and it's already doable... so those problems should all go away soon.

I read something similar on another message board, but I didn't believe it.

So, is it true? Can the GCheckout really support real-time shipping already and it just hasn't been integrated yet?

Jared's absolutely brilliant, so I tend to trust what he writes.

Here's the relevant API information:

http://code.google.com/apis/checkout/devel...custom_calc_api

As far as I can tell, monstersmile.gif is already using Level 2 (coupons, gift certificates, etc) - so it looks like they (along with all of the other cart providers) just haven't integrated the shipping yet. However, the full API is posted there, so it would seem that Google is all set...

Wouldn't it be easy to create a new checkout button for MC users and place the g checkout button on the same line as the monstersmile.gif checkout?

According to the TOS, it's supposed to be under any checkout button. I am discussing that with MC right now. (delineation of the cartdetails page).

Yup -- you're right. I explained that to them. I was told not to look for a change any time soon. It's not on the table.

Robert,
Yes you do get a $50 Adwords credit when you signup for Google Checkout.

As for real time shipping, I will talk to the Google team about this next week.

For now, one thought would be to set it up with a flat rate and try it. I harp on this all the time in my talks because FLAT RATE SHIPPING CONVERTS even if it cuts your margins a bit. Now might be a good time to try for some merchants who can do this. I understand there are others who just can't and for you guys I promise we will talk with Google and get this done ASAP.

Steph

It's not all about the profit margin.

A lot of unscrupulous businesses have engaged in price gouging in the past under the guise of flat rate shipping.

Many consumers now assume that a flat rate of say $5 reflects actual costs or two or three dollars and resent the markup.

Others prefer the convenience.
