Full Version: Sound/music Effects

If you visit our site, specifically the lion king keychain listing by clicking here you should hear a little lion king music for 2 loop cycles.

I DID set this up with a javascript to ONLY play it once per visit, so if you click HOME and then click on the Lion King thumbnail on the homepage you will not hear it again. You need to close your browser before it clears the cookie and plays it next time.

My questions....

Is this annoying?
Will it confuse customers and make them think the keychains play music?
Should I just get rid of it?
robert
I usually don't like these, but yours did not bug me.

Overall, I suspect that the value of this kind of thing depends on the nature of your site. If you are selling music this would be a great idea. In most cases, it is not a good idea.

We wouldn't do this on our beads site, but eventually we would like to have a site devoted to gamelan music. I'm sure we'll have something in the background for that site.

Ultimate,
There are some key chains that make sound or make music, if you have a particular sound for that key chain in the detail then it will make lot of sense and your customers might like it too. About the lion king if the sound is not associated with the key chain then i will not like it.
Just my thought.

Ultimate,

Even know you are trying something different....I would reccomend trying to cut down on the time that customers have to wait for pages to load and sometimes this can slow em down.

I am not sure it will help you sell anymore!!!

I wrote this last week...

that'll explain my stance in it. tongue.gif

I am keeping the script for possible future use... Maybe on items that do play music or something. I'll just drop it in my archives for now wink.gif

Thanks for all the feedback. The "Lion King" listing now has the music removed. I was just playing around anyways. However, this did have a positive outcome in one regard. It got me to setup a item that does make sound actually play it when you view the item.

Click here and view the Lord of the Rings Talking Gollum keychain. On load it plays what he says... did you miss it? Well it's got a link under additional information to play it again (or just refresh the page)

I personally think this one is acceptable and will work out well.

That is a scary keychain... haha

I don't think it's a bad idea if you have sound that depicts a particular product (like the keychain page you displayed Ultimate).

You may want to create an icon that says... "click here to listen to creepy keychain". laugh.gif

That way, you give the user the choice?

The only reason I feel that the specific "Gollum" keychain should automatically play the sound is because I've had a few "friend customers" who missed the additional info line that had the link that lets you hear it. Once I pointed out to them they flipped out and bought some. biggrin.gif
