hi,
I am just starting out.. read the manuals, and all the posts...I have been trying to figure out how one moves or edits the horizontal navigation bar.
I dont need all the categories it offers and I would love to move its location around.
I have also noticed that a lot of people seem to have well designed navigation bars of their own.. are those done here or using a html editor like dreamweaver?
i am utterly confused and would really appreciate any help unsure.gif

you can use custom html for the navigation which would be done in html.

i believe it has to stay on the left side.

i have put some navigation on the top using top of page editor also with custom html code.

If you do not require the horizontal navigation fields... you can turn it off and add text links on the right or left sides or you can create a "custom header" using html and graphics. Text links may be the bext way to go if you are creating cat and sub cat navigation in the header (for seo and load time).

Have your designer do a custom nav bar for you or call Kyle 877-663-5169... Kyle works with MonsterWebDesign department. He can calculate the cost of accomplishing your objectives.

Your best bet is whatever HTML editor you are best comfortable with. Personally we used Frontpage to create ours. However, we then go in manually and clean up all the extra HTML crap thats not needed. Everyone has there own opinion on HTML editors so best to try afew out or base your decision on either ease of use or features.

We killed those Horizontal nav fields since we didn't need them as well.

rebecca,

as the others have mentioned already, you can either turn that feature off and put your horizontal nav in the header or you can just use it and turn off the links that you dont use. regardless I think its very handy to be able to work with html. i personally prefer to use allaires homesite because it doesnt put all that extra stuff into your html code. happy coding smile.gif

Anyone uses WebMatrix from Microsoft? It is a free HTML/ASP/ASPX editor which has a lot of cool features. The best thing about WebMatrix is that it does not add in unnecessary tags. I know Frontpage and Word tend to add lots of garbages. I use Visual Studio.Net but I like the simplicity of WebMatrix.

Download WebMatrix (requires .NET framework)

Ditto hofei - I'm all for free tools. But I also have to second the post by liltricy - I too like the Homesite product biggrin.gif .
