Tech-Buyer.com
I've been working real hard on my website tech-buyer.com customizing images, uploading products, etc but I was looking on the web the other day and typed in my web site tech-buyer into google search and saw that there was another website with the name techbuyer.com... :/ Its not an electronics store though like my site is. I would love opinions on this - should I change my site name? I really don't want to buy its annoything that if someone doesn't enter the dash in for my website name that they will end up at the wrong site -- techbuyer.com blinking.gif Anyway, thanks for any help!!

How about buying a new domain name and having it point to the store along with your current site.
Tech-Buyer.com
Sorry I'm not sure I understand what you mean...I do not own techbuyer.com...my current site is tech-buyer.com and I just realized that someone else owns a similar site to mine called techbuyer.com and I was wondering if I should change my domain name ??

TB, I think what they are saying is to keep your site at the current address tech-buyer.com and purchase the other domain name of your choice to differentiate yourself from the site "techbuyer.com" and have the new domain set up to automatically direct all traffic to your current site. This way you retain your original domain name that is relevannt to your online business. I'm not sure if there are any issues concerning the similarity of the url's.

You should get a new name - one without the dash.

But, I just went to your domain name - tech-buyer.com and it looks like it's parked. Why would you park it and send all of your traffic to GoDaddy? Did you just say that you've been working hard on it? Seems like parking it is a waste of all that hard work.

I would recommend that you get the new name and that you redirect your tech-buyer.com domain name to your new domain name so you do not loose any residual traffic.

I think that you should change your name all together. Once people get to know your name (or theirs), and go looking for it, they may get confused and go to the wrong site. Now that just wouldn't do. If you want to keep it as an additional domain that would be all right. But you should get a different name and make every link pointing to your site be from the other URL. When the other gets used it will be more of an accident.

BTW, in order to have multiple domains pointing to your store with MC, you will need an additional hosting plan. That other host will basically be solely for redirects.

i think thats a great name ...
if its already "seasoned", then i would keep it.
or i like hostingdiva's answer.

as with all sites, if its a valuable site, then people will find you;)

If the other store that is similar to your URL is very successful... why not keep your name? Some people might accidentally type in your URL when they want the other one. On the other hand, the same might happen the other way, so make sure you stress your hyphen in your ads.

This reminds me of the white house dilemna. (People wanted http://www.whitehouse.gov but typed in the wrong extension...)

It is up to you but the name does fit the other site pretty well. You just need to decide and get your site live. I would try to get half of my categories ready and hide the rest of them. Go online with the site and add categories as you get them done. Your site is selling nothing the way it is now.
My 2 cents
