What do you guys think of this?

I am thinking about using it to clear up some screen real estate.

What about the SEO concequences?

Thanks,

Hi Superdetail!

Generally, these types of menus are not search engine friendly. However, I will have someone from the Promotions department take a look.

Thanks

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your fast reply. I was thinking the same thing, but I was also thinking that I could mitigate this problem by putting all of category, and info links (those that otherwise would be in my left hand column) in my footer.

Thanks,
ian

Hi Ian,

The menu would be difficult for spiders to crawl through. However, if you add those important links down in your footer as you suggested, it would take of any crawling issues.

Actually there are two versions of opencube, one of which is mostly based on html lists and css, which is totally available to be spidered.

One of my competitors uses this type of navigation. I don't find it to be very user friendly, personally.

i used navstudio for non ecommerce site, but its not really seo friendly. Its all javascript. The css menu they have are really not as neat as the javascript ones. For your ecom site i would recommend keeping the existing nav. if you want to put time into something make html category pages.
