Full Version: Sales Tax Exempt
MonsterSmallBusiness Forums > MonsterCommerce > How do I?

Many of my customers are localm state and federal governments. They are not likely to finish an on line purchase if they see sales tax being added to their order.

How do I add a question to the customer sign up which will exempt them from sales tax?

Thanks
sgrover
I don't know that there is a tax exempt field in customer signup. Once the account is created, you can mark it tax free in the Customer Manager ("TF" checkbox).

How would this be handled for guest accounts though? Is there any way to do this MC?

There is no way to do this for guests. They'll have to register, you have to update their customer record as sgrover suggested, then they can place their order. You'll need a copy of their exempt form anyway, so why not have a blurby thing somewhere to fax or mail their exempt form and you will set them up as tax exempt? Or doesn't your state require you to collect that?

I wouldn't want tax exempt customers checking out as guests anyway, just in case of an audit.

I don't use the MC registration, I pre-approve registrations manually. Only licensed tradespersons are allowed to view pricing on certain products. Those people I set up as tax-free when they send their resale certs. Some products, however, don't require registration.

I guess I'll just have to put a note saying to call in the order.

Thanks purplekitty.
