Thanks!!

We actually got ours for free. We hired a local promotions company that was just starting up to create an inexpensive mouse pad for us. We included one in each order when we were just getting started. I told the lady my vision of what the pad should look like and she worked with me until we got the look I wanted. She was e-mailing me the artwork so when we finally got what I wanted I ordered the mouse pads and converted the artwork to jpeg and the rest is history. I guess sometimes you just get lucky. I think that ours really fits what the core of our web site business is.

I had monstersmile.gif Commerce do mine. What I ended up with isn't anything remotely like I had envisioned, but I really liked it when I was shown the proofs. I'm very happy with the job that they did. thumbsup.gif

I paid $500.00 to monstersmile.gif to do mine and got nothing like I wanted. If you look at my site you will not see the logo i paid for. I do not reccomend them.

I used photoshop to make mine and it took all day with 3 people giving constant input.

I created my own and have also created quite a few for others.

We used this company. They were fast, easy to work with, very professional, provided 6 different designs and multiple edits and revisions. They even created the stationary and business card layouts all for one flat price. By the way, did I say that they were cheap?

our sunglass logo was done by Logo To Go - we did our own logo for our handbag site.
Cryssi
I did my own also.

But if you are ever looking for a bunch of create people, visit the forums over on istockphoto.com they have some of the most creative people on the earth... I've seen websites and logo designs that will literally blow your socks off. You can usually post what you're looking for and what you'll pay and get a good response. A lot of them have portfolios.

I don't know if we can post links for other forums so you can PM and I'll give you the line.

We used monstersmile.gif very happy with the results Highly recomended!

HI,
I did the logo myself with photoshop, adobe image ready and some hand drawing. Photoshop has a learning curve, but is very helpful once you get past that.

Sorry for the hijack, but I think others may be interested too -

Jeff, did you use some type of Photoshop tutorial to help you learn? I kind of peck around when I need to do something specific, but I'd like something with a little more meat like an online tutorial or course.

Hi Purple,
Well, when I got photoshop, I kind of just stared at it with a sinking feeling wondering. "what do I do now?". I didn't have the money to have someone design a site the way I wanted it, so I knew there was no other choice, but to learn it. And I didnt want to be left helpless if I wanted to change any part of the design in the future. Also, I dont think someone else would "get" the concept and be able to illustrate it, as there is a great deal of symbolism and complexity in each image, which I explain to guests on the "About" page.

I started just importing images and playing with all of the button to see what they do. Then I started reading several web based tutorials and trying some examples based off the tutorials. I had to edit thousands of photos, resize, optomize and put on a black background, so practice helps. Also had to think about textures, light direction, etc. Here are some links that I used to learn from:

1. Pslover.com
-This site has lots of screenshot based tutorials submitted by people who seem to design a lot of game based sites.

2. Good-Tutorials.com
-Lots of categories of tutorials to choose from.

3. Planetphotoshop.com
-More very good tutorials.

4. Irfanview.com
-This helped me convert certain types of images to make them usuable in photoshop for editing, and its FREE.

5. Alienskin.com
-Some awesome Photoshop plugins that can make really interesting effects, when used with modesty.

Regards,
Jeff

Nice site. To the far right of Search Catalog it should probably say "Advanced Search". Picky - but I always cringe when I am shopping on a website and there are words misspelled or errors in grammer. Nancy

Nancy...to whom are you addressing this? thanks!

You might also try elance.com. They have so many talented artists on their ready to work. You come up with your price, post your RFP and then the bidding starts. They send you their portfolios, you can read reviews, etc. I have never had any problem. Myself and my husbands companies have created over a dozen logos. Very reasonable. We've paid anywhere from $150 - $350.
good luck

You'd be suprised what you can get done with Photoshop and a nice font library!
If you've got the software, give it a try yourself...that would be the cheapest way to go and you can create exactly what you envision.

Yes, you're right. I have photoshop, but still am completely inept at figuring out how to use that powerful tool. blinking.gif

Unfortunately, I don't have it. I think it would be cheaper to have one designed.

Photoshop is darn expensive. huh.gif

Well, I am one of the "Artistically Challenged" and "Photoshop Flunkies" out there.

I have had to pay to get my logos and other stuff done.

I did find and illustrator and artist who created the "Shopping Girl" for my site. Her work is wonderful and her prices are very reasonable. She just started her own business and has experience in merchandising, marketing and illustration work. I actually created a page for her on my site showing the work she has done for me and her bio with contact information. She works as a graphic designer, doing logos, branding, book covers, ads, posters, billboards, brochures, banners, etc.

By the way, I do not get paid for this, I just like her talent.

If you would like to see her work, try this link:

The bio is near the bottom of the page.

You wouldn't happen to know a student of some sort that could might be interested in buying the academic version that maybe you might be able to "borrow" occasionally, would you? whistling.gif

At this moment she only has the blog that there is a link too in her bio. She says she is "Working" on a webpage but is trying to get the "Flash" right... Just like the rest of us I guess. woot.gif

I also used LogoWorks and was extremely happy with the process and the outcome. Well.... with the only exception being the CRAPPY A** dvd case that they send the final logo files in! doh.gif Quite literally, it was just tossed in the mail, unwrapped. Fortunately, it is easier to simply download them when complete. I was shocked that my CD even read when it arrived.

Other than that little mistep, I was extremely pleased.

My wife is a terrific graphic designer with her own graphic design company. She designed our logo in Illustrator and Photoshop and also designed our site. Official logo here: https://www.scrappymax.com/index.asp?PAGEACTION=CONTACTUS. She's been designing for something like 20 years (but don't tell her I mentioned how long.) happy.gif

Hey, I just got my design from Logo Design Pros....4 different logos, multiple revisions, color options and final for $198. I really like my design. I say check them out.

UPDATE:

Did receive my final logo designs yesterday and was very, very pleased. I would definitely recommend going with an unlimited revision logo if you don't have a clear idea on a logo concept. We went through many revisions until we reached my final logo.

my significant other is trying to make a name for himself in the graphic design world - he can do some fantastic stuff (and belive me.. when it comes to design i'm as critical on him as anyone would be.. we don't believe in holding punches when it can help either of us become better at what we do).. if you want.. i can give you his e-mail, i guess ? happy.gif

I used Photoshop for all my logos, but if it's getting in the way for you rather than helping, I'd suggest starting here: www.logoyes.com.

They have a GREAT online tool that lets you tinker with ideas, and, even better, a questionnaire that helps you refine your ideas for your company, and hence your company's logo. You can pay for the logo you created, or do a screen print of it and mess with it in Photoshop for free.

I'd also suggest exploring the results returned by doing the Google search: "create your own logo".

Good Luck!

For Factory Direct Leisure we used LogoWorks (www.logoworks.com) and for 2 other logos that I needed I ran a contest on Site Point Forums (www.sitepointforums.com).

Lynda.com also has video tutorials if you feel really like you need to see the program in action and hear someone explaining it too you. They charge for each tutorial but the pricing isnt to bad depending on what version of Photoshop you have. I think CS tutorial is like 150$. Honestly I have been using Photoshop since 3.0 and I am still learing new tricks. So don't feel like you need to understand the whole program overnight.

JIK is right having an extensive font library is a good thing to have. I have about 2000 fonts installed on my pc and another 15,000 that I flip through every so often.

We used a local company (www.ms-studios.com) and they hit our logo right on the spot. They are very creative and I highly reccomend them. One of the great things they did was made our logo very brandable - this is extremely important. They also designed our site www.vitagy.com (it's not quite done so as hard as it may be please refrain from placing an order). They are perhaps more expensive than a straight logo design company but it was well worth the extra money. It's not worth trying to go cheap on design features - customers can tell.

something is very wrong with your categories on your site - the rollovers are messed up - like a runaway subscript r something.
