Full Version: Getting Rid Of Paypal Express Copy
MonsterSmallBusiness Forums > MonsterCommerce > How do I?
adoptshoppeVIP
Is the current wording with the PayPal Express Button hard coded? Although I've deleted it and added my own in the field, the original copy remains. (Maybe I'm missing something.)

I don't mind the big button and I've added CC images and other explanation. But I pay PayPal for the privilege of using the service. I don't like the copy that knocks other payment options. That's a commercial.

Thoughts, folks?
Jared
The wording you are changing is for the Paypal payment method at the end of checkout, not the text by the big button at the beginning of checkout. The text you see is what Paypal requires - we are unable to change it.

However, I'm sure you could use Javascript to edit the text if you really wanted to.

Thanks for the clarification - if someone has a javascript or other workaround, I'd love to see it.

This is the reason we are staying with PayPal Standard...at least for the time being.

I don't want PayPal to be listed first, I don't like the language ....and I hate the huge button.

If there is any type of work around, I might change my mind.

PayPal standard? Button? What are you talking about?

I'm using the basic PayPal that we have always used. I guess that is standard.

On my cart (only 1 of my 3 clients takes PayPal) when you get to the payment part all it says is

"Pay with PayPal

PayPal Payments"

Both are lines of text, and not links.

Is there supposed to be a button there? That would make sense I think. They should have to select the payment method.

On my site there is no explaination, but if you happen to click "place your order" THEN is goes to PayPal. Yes, it should go to PayPal, but the customer should have to tick off a check box or something, don't you think?

I just went back and forth with Tech Support last night (about this and more) and they said this is how it works. This makes no sense! whoa.gif

This morning a customer put all sorts of stuff in their cart, wanted to pay with a credit card (clearly did not hit the credit card button) probably thinking that they just entered that on the next screen... they hit "place your order" and guess what happened?

Yup, it went to PayPal - which they didn't want!

And of course when you go "back" what happens? That's right, the cart is emptied!
Customer is upset and goes away, writes to me and never comes back again! doh.gif

Come on, the order isn't in "View Shopping Carts" so I can't even recover it!

John-

Change the order of your payment methods (make credit card first) - then you won't have this problem. Also - you can change the text on Paypal to something like "If you'd like to pay for your order using Paypal, just click the "Place your Order" button below." (or something like that)...

John--
My response was to adoptshoppevip and the new set-up for PayPal Express and PayPal Pro....Not the "PaYPal we have always used" (I believe it is now called PayPal standard)

What I was saying is we are staying with the "PayPal we have always used"...(PayPal standard) because I do not want to deal with the new PayPal language, the new placement, and the new button of PayPal Express and PayPal Pro.

Hope I cleared this up....and not muddled it further.
newageweb
mamamia, thanks - no problem... just don't understand this I guess.

Jared, thanks, I put credit cards first and that seems to fix it for the most part. Of course now the text on the second option, PayPal now simply reads

Pay with PayPal
Click Here for this Payment Option <-- this is a link

And when you click that link, the page reloads with PayPal first and

Pay with PayPal
PayPal Payments (all text)

Now this is the basic PayPal option we have always used. And now I'm confused because I guess I thought the other PayPal option was for the new PayPal Website Payments Pro, which I don't know much about and don't use, obviously.

So what is PayPal Express? Maybe I missed it, but does PayPal call it that? None of the options under PayPal Express HTML seem to be for the button or text or whatever... just for the header and footer - so I guess that's for the more advanced PayPal method? blinking.gif

If I could just make "Click Here for this Payment Option" and "PayPal Payments" say to simply click click "place your order" then I'd be all set. I think you said that I can do that (maybe you're talking about the other PayPal option?) but I don't see where to do it?

Thanks! cool.gif

John-

Goto Order Processing -> Online Payment Manager -> Paypal Standard Settings -> Description

Our description is set as:

<b>If you would like to pay for your order using your Paypal account, just click the "Complete Your Order" button below and you will be brought to Paypal to complete your payment.</b>

When a customer checks out on our site, they are brought to the credit card fields first. They see "Pay with Paypal - Click here for this payment option" - when they click on it, the credit card fields go away, and they see "Pay with Paypal - If you would like to pay for your order using your Paypal account, just click the "Complete Your Order" button below and you will be brought to Paypal to complete your payment."

Hope that helps,
Jared

Jared,

Thanks, again! You should work for monstersmile.gif. If you did, then I would have had this entire problem solved last night and I woudn't have lost a big order this morning. I asked Tech Support about all of this and I was pretty much told "that's the way it is."

They never told me I could edit the text, I even specifically asked, there has to be a way, but no. To me what you told me to put is pretty much what the default should be anyway! I read the info monstersmile.gif put out and it said nothing about how this works now. It was only when I ran some test orders that I found how oddly it works.

I mean you need to understand how easy it is to empty your cart. If you click the checkout button and you meant to pick a credit card or whatever, you go to PayPal.com, so you hit back and you loose your entire order. That's what happened to a customer this AM. Why on Earth would it simply default to PayPal? That makes no sense!

The customer has to enter a credit card number to pay with a card, why not at least check a box to pay with PayPal... or just have it GO to PayPal when you click the link -Right?!?

Geez, now I'm thinking that my option for pay with a check won't work... Well, it will I bet, but it will try to go to PayPal no doubt. Got to test that, I can only imagine. Why do WE have to again test what monstersmile.gif are supposed to test?

Oh, I assume you changed your buttons, but I have the default ones, so mine says "Place Your Order" not "Complete Your Order". If not, you may want to adjust yours so as not to confuse anyone.

Jared
Actually, I was going to mention that... we have custom buttons that say "Complete" instead of "Place" - so good you figured that one out. Also - if you upgrade to the new enhanced Paypal checkout (i.e. Paypal Express), it doesn't let the customer complete the order without paying for it with Paypal. This also means that their cart does not get cleared accidentally... however, enabling Paypal Express could create other issues for you. (Although you can switch back and forth rather easily.)

Jared
Jared
John-

You might want to make the following changes on your site:

1. Remove the Paypal graphic that says "Simply Click The "Place Your Order" Button To Make Your Payment..." - as they now need to change their payment option, then click "Place Your Order" - so those instructions are wrong. You could, instead, include this image in the Paypal description and then it would only show up when someone chooses Paypal as a payment method (but how you have it now is very confusing.)
2. Add similar text to the Check payment option (about filling in their check number and then clicking the place your order button, etc.)
