Is there anyway to setup Urchin stats so that it doesn't count the pc you work on? I wish it didn't recognize the admin pages etc...that are us working on the site.

Yes, very good point.

Urchin does have these abilities but filters add overhead to processing time. Possibly once the next version rolls out, if it is even faster, we can look at doing this, but the fact is too many of our customer's ips vary, and no matter how fast Urchin gets, filters always add time and resource usage.....so the more you end up with the more slowdown will occur. Unless something major changes with Urchin processing or filter handling I do not see this coming anytime in the immediate future. sad.gif

Adam,

When do u expect to roll out the newer version of Urchin Stats?

The option to filter out the admin pages, or the IP of PC's doing admin work would really be a big plus. It is probably too much headache for MC to setup such filters for its customers. So, if there is a way in which these filters can be set by store admin (i.e. MC customers themselves), that would be great.

Please keep me posted on any new stat features

Thanks! biggrin.gif

Whenever Urchin comes out with version 6. I have no real timeline, the Urchin site (http://www.urchin.com) is the best bet on that info.

You know I have said this, and I have to be quite honest here....I don't see super granular control ever being an option for our stats package...ultimately it's a very iffy area because of increased overhead and quite frankly we will get the one person who decides to filter every single thing, well past reason, and bogs down the other people on a given stats server...then we will have to track through the whole of stats to find it, etc, etc.

I would have to remind people that as has been mentioned several times, stats is a basic service we provide, and for the money and what comes with it (especially now), it is a pretty good deal and does get better with each Urchin update.

For the kind of control you are looking for, you would have to go dedicated before I could allow that kind of filter control so as not to risk performance for other stats processing for other customers, etc, etc....that or look into external options, etc, etc. I am in no way trying to turn you away from us, but I do have to reiterate that stats we provide are fairly general and considered a basic service....and admittedly some people may feel they need more than others.

I will keep you posted on stats developments and such though.

Adam is our chief server admin and he is given the task of ensuring clients have fast and reliable stores.

I don't want his message above to be taken out of context. The message delivered above could be taken as, "you are only paying $10 for stats, you get what you pay for."

I think he is saying >>

1. Adam must make decisions based on what is in the best interests of speed, reliability and service.

2. Adam believes Urchin 5.0 is a robust stats packagae, but understands some companies may require a more robust package and there are many on the market.

It is sometimes hard to tell the attitude of someone through the forum and I didn't want his post to come off being negative.

Thanks for the clarifcation Ryan, I hate the lack of emotion or tone written communcation entails sometimes....and I do hope everyone on here knows that no post I ever write should be taken as anything but direct information, etc.

On a more amusing note, this would be how Ryan's message would translate if I were saying it in person:

Adam works with all of our internal server issues...he lives in a dark hole and sometimes has the social skills of...a potatoe. smile.gif

Adam doesn't like anyone yelling at him, be it customers or staff....so he must make trade offs to shoot for the least number of people yelling at him

Adam loves Urchin after a long period of evaluation, but Adam won't lie to you if he feels your needs exceed what he can/we can do and maintain his ever important ratio of happy people to not-as-happy people.

Sorry, just thought I would post a follow up that was not as direct or to the point as I usually do...it's Halloween and all so I thought a light-hearted holiday post would be good...

We get it, Adam is the computer guy (moveeeee). Hopefully they let him out of the basement and hopefully he can move quickly with the 3 cell phones, 2 pagers, 1 blackberry, and a wireless laptop, that he has with him at all times.
