I've been having CONTSTANT connectivity and stat problems with Urchin 6. It is horribly unstable.

I love having the extra information..... but it needs to work! dry.gif

I will never understand why programers put out products that do not function - and then are mystified when people get irritated. It really angers me. I did not sign up to be a beta tester for this. At least it's free for me now - not that being free is an excuse for improper functionality.

As I requested before (and was completely ignored) monstersmile.gif.... please make contact with Urchin and find out what is going on! This is getting really old. whip.gif

I believe from this post and tickets entered for the problem the issue has already been corrected. We have alreading informed Urchin about the error and it should be resolved.

Is anyone else still having problems? We still have some other open questions with Urchin that we are working through.

If you are still having problems with Urchin 6, please create a ticket for the problem with all the details --what page you were on, what you were trying to do-- and these will be forwarded onto Urchin. Thank you!

Another Urchin Question....

How accurate is 6 On Demand? We switched to a semi-dedicated server because Toni from monstersmile.gif told us that our site was getting way more traffic recently. She told us that we were averaging around 1000 visitors a day. Which according to the Urchin 5 Stats ...this was true. She said due to all the traffic and bandwidth we have been using we were on our way to running out of bandwidth by the end of the month. So we switched to the semi-dedicated server and got the Urchin Upgrade from 5 to 6.

Now rather than seeing the usual trends of roughly around 1000 visitors per day this is what I show:

Friday Aug 19th: 511
Saturday Aug 20th: 368
Sunday Aug 21th: 235

Now something isnt right here. Either the on demand 6 stats are not right...or the Urchin 5 stats arent right. How could we drop from 1000 hits per day to 235?!
agkits
Well ... I found out that Urchin wasnt keeping stats on Sunday for 8 hours ...greaaaaaaat. Woo Hoo. Im still not buying the 368 though... the 511 ok yeh maybe ...but thats a big drop. Down 600-700 visitors in one day? I guess it could be possible? Any one having problems with Urchin 6 accuracy?

Hello,

Urchin On Demand is a huge improvement on the accuracy of useful information from Urchin 5.x The reason for the difference between users and traffic is that Urchin 5.x uses the server’s web logs to gather information on content. The server web logs will record all site activity, including unneeded information such as traffic from search engine spiders and admin panel activity. Urchin 6 on Demand uses javascript on the front-end of the site that does not record admin panel activity and has greater accuracy to filter search engine spiders. So that is why with Urchin 5.x you are seeing a larger amount of visitors, since it is factoring in admin panel activity and traffic from search engine spiders. Thankyou!

James:

What I am referring to is not entirely related with the previous ticket I posted. I am experiencing random connection issues, EXTREMELY slow response times, random losses of stats, and random generations of some stats - one day they are there, the next they are not. Specifically, I'm referring to the catagory and pageview stats - they do not generate correct information consistently; sometimes there is no detailed information at all regarding specific pageviews.

Yes, I like all the extra info. And yes... I realize that this is not monstersmile.gif's responsibility. So, please don't assume that I'm griping at monstersmile.gif. wink.gif As I stated in a previous post, I simply feel a fire needs to be lit under the folks at Urchin to solve these issues quicker that what the appear to be doing - or not doing. dry.gif

So when Toni told us that we needed to switch to a semi-dedicated server because the reason our site was slow was because we were getting so much traffic...that was not entirely true... I mean since Urchin 5.x is not accurate we may have really only been receiving 500 hits as opposed to the 1000 that she told us we have been receiving ?

monstersmile.gif please respond.

Thank you

Consider the fire lit. user posted image In all seriousness, all of the problems that our clients have let us know about with Urchin 6 have been logged and forwarded on to all the right parties. Just in case I am missing something, let me summarize what you have said above to make sure I am getting it.

Random connection issues: When you are logged into the Urchin 6 interface, you get randomly logged off or dead pages when looking up information.
Slow page response time: At other times, the information does load, but at slower than acceptable rates.
Random losses of stats for a certain length of time: When looking at a full day (or perhaps a week), a number of hours may be missing in the middle of the day (or week).
Random generation of some stats: Stats that were missing one day (as above) show up a day or two (or more) later. Specifically, this happens on the category and pageview statistics.

There are various reasons that any of these could happen. I'm going to make sure that these are already logged and see what sort of steps I can find that may help you to use the system with better efficiency.

James:

Yes, your summary is correct.

Thank you

Agkits-
No Toni was correct as she bases numbers on bandwidth not on number of visitors to your site. In addition, as Maggie said, admin panel activity isn't counted in U6, nor are any spiders. These items all use bandwidth even though they do not make up more unique shoppers for your site.
Hope this clarifies.
