Full Version: Able To Edit Order?
MonsterSmallBusiness Forums > MonsterCommerce > How do I?
NotJeffCarson
I tried out the demo. Placed an order, which then I got an error, but, I was still able to find the order in the admin side.
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0009'
Subscript out of range: 'intX'
/Includes/CartProcessFunctions.asp, line 538

However, I found that the ordered items were not listed. Only an add product, but, it didn't seem to work.
error '80020009'
Exception occurred.
/admin/includes/AdminOrderAddProduct.asp, line 84

I am guessing that this is because 'it' is a demo so the functionality is limited.

However, (in the real store), can I or not, edit orders after they are placed? Say, like shipping method, or payment method?

Thanks

I'd guess that the Demo Store just hasn't received the lastest patches. smile.gif

The Demo store is far behind on the patches... don't use the Demo store as a guide to updates. smile.gif

Why wouldn't you guys patch the demo store though. A lot of people use this to determine weather monstersmile.gif is right for them. It would be an advantage to run patches to the demo store

Hello,

The Demo store's foundation differs slightly from standard 4.0 stores in order to include refresh capabilities. We are still working out issues with patch schedules for the demo store, as you can see.

However, we focus our time and resources on top priority items that effect real stores and the demo store has taken second place until which time (this week, actually) wherein we can afford to iron out remaining issues in the demo store without sacrificing time spent on live stores.

Thanks!

Yeah I understand that, thank for reply

To elaborate on the Skipper's (*salute!*) previous response, we set our demo store up a few weeks ago before a lot of the most recent patches were available. For those interested in seeing the demo store -

When the development team releases a patch, the demo store does actually get updated with that patch. However, we have another process working with the demo that defeats this patch after the fact and reverts the store back to it's previous pre-patched state.

Because the demo store is open to anyone on the internet to edit it -

We had to set up something on the server that reverts the site back to a backup every twenty minutes or so. Otherwise we would have 13-year-old kids finding the site and posting f@rt jokes and other stuff we don't want up there representing our company.

You can see this in action if you go into the demo and make site changes for a few minutes. After awhile, the site automatically reverts back to square 1. This means that settings, orders, email addresses, customers, html, payment info and anything else that isn't already saved in the demo gets lost every time this site refreshes. This gives you and any potential clients a chance to see the features in action, but does not let an enterprising prankster commandeer the site for very long.

Most likely, either one of two things will happen; the developers and server admins will iron out a way for the patching scheme to write the patch to the backup as well as everywhere else OR once the manic w00t.gif pace of bug fixes and patches slows down to a more normal rate (weekly or monthly instead of daily) one of the developers will just manually add the new patches to the demo.

Ok, fine, I will not do fart jokes... grin

please back to my question:

In the real store, can I or not, edit orders after they are placed?
Say, like shipping method, or payment method? Say, like a customer
specifies ground shipping, but, then, puts comments that they need it
by Friday. So, I can then, change the shipping method, and it will
recalculate that cost.

You can edit orders after they are placed, but you are limited as to what you can edit. You can change the amount of the shipping, but cannot change the shipping method selected. You can change all the customer's billing/shipping information. You can add new products, and change whether they should be taxed or not. The total order amount will automatically be changed when you click on the update button.

You cannot change the method of payment, or the credit card number, etc. Also keep in mind that if you change the price of the order and you are using an Online Payment method, you will have to manually change the price charged to the card by logging into your virtual terminal for that gateway.

Also keep in mind that you can always add whatever notes you want the customer to see (there is also a section that they cannot see, but you can) that is set up for this exact purpose. You can modify the order, then add notes to the order, stating something such as "Wanted the order by Friday, so we modified the cost of shipping," or whatever you want to say. If you want notes just for you or your company's records, then you would want to modify the Admin Notes section, as your customers cannot see this section.

Correct! Also, features will be added down the road such as processing credit cards from the back end and possibly shipping calculations as well. The forums provide a wealth of excellent new feature requests that we will continue to build into the software. You can always submit these new feature requests as well in your MyMonsterCommerce.com administration area. biggrin.gif

I understand on using the notes section (its a good thing). The only point is that if I could not change a shipping method, and thus the shipping cost, is that I would need to find a good method (outside of monstersmile.gif) of calculating the shipping cost.
(cancelling order and authorization, and reentering a new order is abit time consuming)

Thanks
