Full Version: Urchin 6 Segment Performance ($/visit)

Has anyone else noticed that the "$/visit" only gets recorded for "(direct)[(none)]" links under "segment performance"?

I have been using Urchin 6 for approximately 6 weeks and the only dollars I am recording come from "direct" links. I know this can't be the case since my Google and Overture adwords are recording sales. I contacted support and they initially verified that my links were correct. MonsterCommerce now tells me they know of the problem and it is being addressed with Urchin.

First let me say that I love monstersmile.gif and recommend it to everyone but the competition. Having said that, I am still waiting for an update on this issue. The reason this issue is important to me is because I am trying to evaluate all of my ads, banner and otherwise. I was hoping that the statistics would show me which ads are ringing up sales and which ads are duds. Unfortunately, because of this issue I cannot correlate the ads with my sales. Please let me know if someone has a work around for this.

I guess the frustration comes from spending three hours using the urchin link builder to customize every adword category and banner ad. While this exercise has provided me a great deal of valuable information, I feel that this is just the one piece that could make the solution PERFECT.

Boardroom,

This is very bizarre... we use U6 as well and we have not had any problems with this.

I was able to copy your link used in Google PPC (I didn't need to click on it) and it looks right except for one thing which we do not use...

You are using utm_source and utm_medium but also utm_campaign where I think you are meaning to use utm_keyword.

You actually need to create a "campaign" for that feature to work, and I think you are simply putting in the keyword.

I could be wrong... you may have intended this, but I think you will get what you are looking for if you mass find/replace utm_campaign with utm_keyword.

Let us know.

Andy,

Thank you for your reply. I find this to be odd as well. The funny part about all of this is that urchin is tracking the inbound links correctly. The problem comes about when it tries to associate the final sale with an inbound link.

For example, Urchin is currently tracking inbound links from google organic, google ppc, overture, yahoo organic, msn organic, and others. Unfortunately Urchin cannot seem to match up a sale with these inbound links. Personally, I feel it must have something to do with how Urchin attempts to track a customer through to the final sale. If this is done via cookie, for example, then maybe monstersmile.gif is blocking that cookie and its information. If this were the case then I would assume others would have this problem too. Based on the replies, I guess that is not the case.

Still, any suggestions are appreciated.

Boardroom,

What is the domain name of the site you have with us. I'd be interested to take a look.

Bob,

I think I figured this out...

It looks as though you are the only one using U6 right now with shared SSL. (at least that I could find) Since its' going to another domain I think something unpredicted is happening.

I will show this to our QA department... I am not sure what can be done at this point, though, since this may be something to do with the way Urchin 6 works. We will find out.

In the mean time I did want to mention the value of purchasing your own SSL. I'm not sure if you receive our monthly newsletters, but you will want to check out this study we did on shared SSL vs. dedicated SSL: http://www.monstercommerce.com/pr-dedicated-geotrust-ssl.asp

We've seen dedicated SSL increase checkout by ~4.5% over shared SSL.

Andy,

Thanks for taking up my cause. You were absolutely right. I switched to a dedicated SSL and now I can see exactly where the sales are coming from.

I really appreciate your help!
