Full Version: Screen Transistions

Have you ever gone a search engine and come across a site where when you clicked on the link to enter the site the whole screen fades in....or pixleates ...or wipes from left to right? Is this not the most annoying thing in the world? Why do people insist on using screen transisions to go from page to page. Its a fast paced world...we know what we want. We don't need some dramatic entrance to every page... am I right?

1. Yeah.

2. YES.

3. I have no idea.

4. You're dead on correct.

1. Yes.

2. Depends.

3. Just because we can. Yeah, I said we. I made a Website for my son that uses all those weird transitions. It was a lot of fun to play with them all, and try to get some cool effects. He's only eight, so he enjoys it, too. It's much more fun for him and his friends than a normal blink-and-there's-a-new-page transition. I've also seen it on other family-type Websites.

4. You are right, though. For a business Website, it's a bit odd. Then again, I've heard from a lot of Web developers who say they have to fight with clients to keep them from adding all kinds of cheesy, amatuerish effects to their sites. And these clients are all normal, successful, intelligent business people in their 40s and 50s who want these things. I don't get that. Maybe it's like playing with a new toy.

Some people like to add effects just because they can. Once it dawns on them that they are costing themselves business they usually change them though. The internet is such a cool thing to play with but when you are trying to make money simple is many times much better. Some sites have those little movies and slide shows when you enter there sites. Isn't that big of a bother on high speed but when I go home on slow speed connection, what a pain. I tend to move on to the next site.

Yep, it's just another noob webmaster mistake along with music, flashing animations and garish graphics. They are forgetting the basic rule of webdesign. Your not making the site for you, your making it for the customer. The first thing new designers do is add flash things they like because they can and forget about the audience. Common mistake but everyone gets over it eventually.

Totally noob.
Same reason that some folks use every transition, sound and effect when doing a power point presentation--and they usually realize the error when the lights come on and everyone has vacated.

Hey...perhaps animated gifs will come back in style now that the Atari 2600 is relaunching for Xmas???? wink.gif Naaahhhh.
