New laws are being passed to force e-commerce sites to start collecting and paying sales taxes for all states.
This is unfair as there are still many others who do not, such as catalog sales and mail order sales.
This could shut most of us down.

The man is after us again. Anybody else thinking we need a few more democrats back in office. I'm more libertarian minded myself, but to many damn republicans in office and everything in the world is about big business.
Just my two cents.

Gee, Surfcell, that seems inappropriate. I think both parties are equally good at creating invasive legislation that impedes freedom and commerce.

I vote for one nation-wide sales tax rate that applies to everyone. The government can then decide on how to divide the take among the states.

Last I heard this was delayed once again due to the fear that it could cause too much confusion and potentially hurt the economy. I totally agree that it should have to be a "federal sales tax" and let them sort it out but also that it needs to affect mail order as well and not just us!
Some people won't pay for both tax and shipping. I know I personally switched from using Buy.com to Amazon as Buy.com started to collect a "voluntary" sales tax for my state.

I herd that our current standing on the sales tax is up in November, but that they were expect to renew for another 3 to 6 months so it doesn't cause more confusion.
Personally I think that it's a selling feature for online stores.

Well I certainly wouldn't want to have to deal with the collection of sales tax for all 50 states. I'm sure it will affect our sales as well.

Determining a fair method of collecting sales tax for mail order and internet sales is difficult. I do not expect any progress within a few years. Retail outlets still get conflicting tax rate data for sales thru their physical location.
Presently, I collect for any sales shipped to the same state using the sales tax rate (%) of my company address.

I agree with notjeff. This will probably never happen and the only reason it still floats around is because of large state deficits during the economic downturn. Now if we all would just claim our out-of-state purchases on our annual state income tax returns like we're all supposed to do....
