I think the article author underestimates the rate of technology advance. If Moore's Law holds true (and it has for 25 years), what he's considering a supercomputer will likely be available in every wristwatch by 2050.

No, I think we'll have plenty of TFLOPS and TerraBytes in a small enough package by 2015-2020. The problem will be the flesh to digital interface...and getting people to sit still while you install the WiFi device up their nose.

My brian would not require a supercomputer, probably a sinclair or an Atari would due. Maybe a basic stamp motor control kit.

If by 2025 we have human equal computer intelligence and then by 2030-2040 we have portable Holo screens on rooms and devices ,then that could mean that if a parent takes their kids to a cinema to see a disney movie then the animated character could be holographically alive and consciously intelligeant enough to understand and greet the children inside or outside the cinema,
if walt disney is still around by then that is.
Also if by 2050 or 2060 they really do have online cyber realities and worlds then you could be downloaded from your brain into the games in the playstation 30 or whatever then I suppose you could play as the 3d character.
