Macromedia Fireworks MX 2004 Review (September 29th 2003)

I am testing the whole suite here at work to see if it's worth the price. I can say that yes, it is -- and Fireworks is coming along nicely for web graphics.

I think layer handling is much improved, one of my big beefs with Fireworks compared to Photoshop. smile.gif

You know, on a side note, you should really have who wrote the articles somewhere -- like a byline. I think that would add authenticity to the articles.

I agree... good idea. Ultra (aka) Rick Orchard wrote the above Review. We will make sure we include the author's name on every new article.

I totally agree about the layers. All Fireworks needs to do to catch up with PSD is to have the special effects feature like PSD has in it's layers pallete and I'd switch over. I like how Fireworks is a combination program comparable to PSD and Image Ready. Wish Adobe would combine the two and be done with it. Heck, I wish they'd combine PSD, Image Ready AND Illustrator! Now that would be a kick @$$ program.

I would suggest either RealDraw Pro or ACD Canvas if you want the whole bag of chips. I have used Canvas since version 5, and it's a good program. I am not a purist (Canvas can do everything under the moon and sun) but it has a solid engine. RealDraw, for those of you out there who don't have a billion dollars, is a very, very solid program for the price if you are looking for a nice graphics program.

I just got an email from a friend who was a beta-tester for Photoshop. Sounds very, very nice. Nested layer sets....aaaaaah. I needed that. smile.gif
